WWCC2011: Last Stone Loss to Sweden

Leslie Ingram-Brown sends this report from Denmark:

"There was to be a second loss in three games for Scotland at the Capital One World Women's Championship at the Granly Hockey Arena here in Esbjerg, Denmark, this evening. Anna Sloan, Claire Hamilton, Vicki Adams and Rhiann Macleod went down to the double Winter Olympic gold medallist skip, Sweden's Anette Norberg, 5-3.

With the hammer Anna was forced to take the single in the first end which allowed Norberg to use the advantage of last stone in the second to draw for two. Anna blanked the next three ends and in the sixth was again forced to accept only the one shot.

Norberg blanked the seventh but in the eighth a poor stone by Sweden's third Cissi Ostlund paved the way for a steal of one shot and a 3-2 advantage. In the ninth Norberg attacked and with last stone tapped back for two shots to be one ahead.

Scotland held the last stone coming home. Anna could see only a fraction of a Swedish counter behind a medium length guard. Needing two to win and a single for the extra end, the Scottish skip opted for the takeout. This just touched the Swedish stone, but did not move it enough and Sweden were the winners.

With Germany losing to China and Norway to the Czech Republic no team remains undefeated. Canada also lost to host nation Denmark and Amber Holland's team have now dropped two of their first three games."
