GB Curlers Confirmed for Youth Olympic Games

You know already (story here) that Duncan Menzies, Angharad Ward, Thomas Muirhead and Rachel Hannen will represent Great Britain at the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria, January 13-22, 2012. The competition is just one month away.

The British Olympic Association has confirmed this today. The full press release is here. The four curlers are part of a twenty-three strong Team GB, from nine winter sports disciplines.

I note that one of the 'curling quotes' in the release comes from Thomas Muirhead, who apparently achieves celebrity status, as highlighted in the text of the release, simply by being Eve Muirhead's wee brother, rather than for his curling ability. What IS the world coming to? Never mind Thomas, perhaps one day Eve will be remembered as the sister of Gold Olympic Medallist Thomas Muirhead.

Well done to Duncan, Angharad, Thomas and Rachel on their selection, and good luck to the team. Brad Askew is the coach. I understand that they are due to play in the Lockerbie Junior Competition this weekend.

Eve incidentally will be in Innsbruck as an 'Athlete Role Model', see here.
