Outside Ice Preparation

The most recent acquisition to my curling library is this book of photographs - a record of the bonspiel that took place on January 10, 2010, on the Kirk Loch, Lochmaben. The book has been produced by Border Mail Ltd, of Longtown. I purchased my copy from the Lockerbie Ice Rink for £25.

Even the ice preparation is recorded. Ten sheets were marked out. For the record, the bonspiel was won by the Applegarth rink of Scott Hamilton, John Sloan, Derek Hamilton and Susan Bryden. You will need to buy the book to find out who captured the wooden spoon!

Over £400 was raised on the day for charity.

By coincidence this week, I ran across this video of outside ice preparation for the first S├╝dtirol Curling Cup Open Air Tournament at the Pragser Wildsee, in north Italy last month - mountains, firemen, big hoses, not a nipper in sight.

And you can watch here some of the play from the event. Great fun.
