Things to do in the summer

The 2011-12 season might be over for many, but here are some suggestions if you need to get a curling fix over the months ahead.

Firstly, you could sign up to play in the Hollywood Summer Blockbuster in California, July 6-8, see the poster above and here. That would give you a chance to meet up with the Bond Girls again (reminisce here).

Nearer home, the Fourth Stirling Summer Skins will take place August 3-5 at The Peak, Stirling. The competition is run in a skins format and is open to all abilities. Last year, thirty-two teams took part and this year the organisers hope to reach a full capacity of thirty-six teams. Entry costs £200, but of course some of this may well be recovered by winning some skins!

Email Logan Gray at grayl@activestirling.org.uk for more information.

The Peak Sports Village also has summer ice on Wednesdays and Thursdays from April 18 through to June 21. Curling sessions are available between the following times: Wednesdays: 12.30pm – 11pm. Thursdays: 10am – 6.00pm. Curling ice can be booked for practice, club outings, private coaching or corporate bookings. To make a booking contact Jamie Brophy at brophyj@activestirling.org.uk or on 0300 028 0101.

Or you could go Caveman Curling. It's not what you might think! It's a board game, a 'dexterity' game, produced by Gryphon Games. For younger blogallies, this is what your elders might have played in the days before computers and the internet!

Actually, it's a simple concept, and effective. Watch here how to play, and here for a review. For ages 7 and over. Just like the real sport!
