Andrea wins in Switzerland

Gail Munro, Lyndsay Wilson, Kerry Adams-Taylor and Alison Mather won three and lost three at the RE/MAX Women's Masters in Basel, Switzerland. Their match against Italy's Giorgia Apollonia can be watched on the LAOLA1.tv archive here, or click on the screenshot above.

The Curling Champions Tour event was won by World Champion Andrea Schöpp and her young team of Stella Heiss, Corinna Scholz and Imogen Lehman, who beat Sweden's Anna Hasselborg in the final.

The weekend in prospect

I'll be keeping my eyes on five different competitions this weekend:

1. Eve Muirhead, Kelly Wood, Lorna Vevers and Annie Laird, the World silver medallists, will be competing in Canada at the 2010 Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic in Calgary, Alberta. This is a thirty-two team triple knockout, with eight teams qualifying for quarterfinals. The Asham World Curling Tour event kicks off at 09.00 Mountain Time, tomorrow, Friday. The first round draw is here, and linescores will be here.

2. Gail Munro, Lyndsay Wilson, Kerry Adams-Taylor and Alison Mather are the only Scottish team in the draw for the RE/MAX Women's Masters in Arlesheim, Basel. This is a twenty-four team triple knockout Curling Champions Tour event. The draw can be downloaded from here, and there will be live results here. Again, LAOLA1.tv will be webcasting some games.

3. Stranraer hosts the Royal Caledonian Curling Club's Senior Mixed Championship. Eighteen teams compete in four sections. The draw and results can be accessed from this page.

4. Forfar's relaunched Forfar Open is on the 'watch list' too. The draw and results are here.

5. Last but not least, there's a full twenty-four team entry for the Kinross Junior Masters.

I guess the season is well underway! Look out for Kay Adams' weekend preview on the Royal Club website here.

Women in Basel

Eve Muirhead, seen above with Karen Addison practising at the Dewar's Rink in Perth last week, takes the GB Olympic squad to Basel this weekend for the RE/MAX Women's Masters. This Curling Champions Tour event is a twenty-four team triple knockout. The GB team plays Kirsty Balfour's English side in their first game at 11.00 tomorrow.

Also in the draw at Basel is Anna Sloan's junior team. Seen above with front end Rhiann Macleod and Vicki Adams at the Lanarkshire Rink last Sunday, Anna has Claire Hamilton playing third this year. The Basel event will be a good workout for the team, and great experience for them in their first season together. They have an early start at 08.00 tomorrow, against a Czech Republic team. We should be able to find the results here.

The rest of Scotland's juniors are in action at the Kinross Classic this weekend.

And elsewhere, the Scottish Mixed Seniors Championship is on at Stranraer, a test for the new ice on the new floor, which I described here. The draw is on the RCCC website here, and the results are sure to be there too. There are four sections, some with five teams, others with just four. Play begins at 12.15 tomorrow.
