Well done to the Mhairi Paul and Gregor Cannon (aka Scott Wilson) teams for coming through the tiebreakers at Ayr today to reach the finals of the Scottish Junior Championships in January. The earlier story is here with the other teams who have qualified.

Junior Qualifying Update

In the junior women's qualifying at Ayr this weekend, the teams skipped by Maggie Wilson, Jennifer Martin and Hazel Smith came straight through from Section A. Jennifer Dodds, Katie Wright and Lesley Young are through from B. Four teams are fighting it out for the remaining place. There is a tiebreaker between Gina Aitken's team (skipped this weekend by Katy Richardson) and Rebecca Steven in Section A. Similarly, in Section B, Katie Murray and Mhairi Paul will also play a decider for fourth in the section. The two tiebreak winners will play off for the last place in Aberdeen.
In the junior men's event, Bruce Mouat, Jay McWilliam and Andrew Neilson have qualifed from Section A. Blair Fraser, Gary Cannell and Ruaridh Greenwood are through from Section B. In Section C, Kyle Smith and Duncan Menzies have qualified. But not one of the other three teams has yet been eliminated. Stuart Marshall, Scott Wilson and Frazer Keil all won one, and lost three, in the round robin.

Top photo is Lauren Baxter who plays the last stones for the Maggie Wilson team. Good to see these girls qualifying after the nightmare they had at Aberdeen recently when, amongst other problems, they were involved in a serious car crash. Pic is © Skip Cottage, taken on Friday at Ayr.

Junior Qualifying at Ayr

You can find how the teams are getting on here.

You can follow Team Fraser's exploits on their own blog, here.

I'm sorry that I've not been able to give every team a mention. The top seven junior women's teams will qualify from Ayr by Sunday to join the Hannah Fleming team in the Scottish Junior Championship finals at Curl Aberdeen, January 24-29. The top nine junior men's teams, three from each section, will also qualify for their event in Aberdeen.
One last observation. The Ayr rink now has a lift to allow access to the upstairs clubrooms for those not too mobile. What a fine thing it is too. I got to check it out today, and can testify to its effectiveness! I noted wheelchair curler Michael McCreadie watching some of the play too.
Photos © Skip Cottage. As usual please let me know if I've got any names wrong - quite possibly, as I don't have an up to date team listing and I wasn't able to check all the lineups on the ice today.
