Rhona Martin will throw the first stone at the opening of the European Mixed Curling Championship at Greenacres tomorrow. The honour sees the 2002 Olympic Champion back on the ice in the curling rink where she learned to curl as a junior. Rhona, now the Royal Caledonian Curling Club's Performance Development Coach, doesn't get much time to play these days, and jokes that she will probably fall over. Don't worry Rhona, I'll be there with the camera!
She's getting some practice apparently, at the Ayr rink, which opens today after summer improvements.
The opening ceremony at Greenacres is at 11.00 tomorrow, Tuesday, September 21. There's more about the event in my preview here. Add to that, Mark Callan is making the ice with local ice tech Tom Paterson.
