Turkish curlers in Scotland

There's only eleven days to go before the European Mixed Curling Championship gets underway at the Greenacres rink in Renfrewshire. The draw is online here.

Tuesday, September 21, is the first day of play, with the semifinals and final on Saturday, September 25. Put the dates in your diary and plan a visit to Greenacres and support the competition!

One of the new countries taking part for the first time is Turkey. That country will also try to qualify for the Le Gruyere European Championships, via the new C Group qualifying competition, also at Greenacres, as the EMCC finishes up. That draw is here.

The Turkish curlers have arrived early, booking ice time at Braehead and at the Waterfront. It is great to see them here and I hope they are enjoying their Scottish experiences. Brian Gray, well known for his work with the Latvian curlers, is involved with this group.

Hugh Stewart caught up with the Turkish squad at the Waterfront, and has sent these photos. Sorry no L-R identification - we'll get that on the ice soon. That's the women's team for the C qualifying above, and the men, with alternates, below.

Erzurum, Turkey, is the venue for the next Winter Universiade, January 27 - February 6, 2011, and there is a curling competition scheduled. The main event website is up and running, see here, although there's little or no information of the curling competition or facility as yet.
