The height of fashion

It's about time this old photo had an airing again. It was indeed the height of curling fashion in the 1970s. That's Brian Alderman behind the stone, with a slim Robin Copland lookalike doing the sweeping. I don't recognise the front sweeper who's leaning on his brush. Let me know if you do.

I was asked recently by Struan Wood what curling was like way back in the days when I used to play. "Was it in colour then, Bob?" he said. As you can see from the pic above, it wasn't!

Actually the trousers has a 'pattern' of navy and sky blue! Very fetching.

I was reminded of 'the trousers' when I stumbled into a meeting yesterday which had been convened to decide what the RCCC National Academy Squad teams would be wearing next year. These are the basic bottoms that are under consideration, and will be available in pink, puce, butterscotch, vanilla, and mint chocolate chip!

Role on next season!

And here is the model, Tasha Aitken, with coach and dad David. Curling was definitely in colour when David won the World Junior Championship.

PS Here are the National Academy Squad regulation socks, junior men's version, for the 2010-11 season. And rumour has it that the umpires are going to insist on the uniform regulations next year!

Archive photos! And thanks to the models.
