Try Curling

I picked up an attractive leaflet at Hamilton yesterday which gave me the heads up on a new Royal Club initiative to capitalise on interest generated in the sport from the Winter Olympics.

You can find all the information at www.trycurling.co.uk. There are details of 'Try Curling' sessions at twenty of Scotland's rinks, plus the Deeside facility in Wales, in the weeks ahead.

The sessions are described, "Try Curling sessions welcome anyone aged 8 - 80+ and cater for all levels of abilities. RCCC qualified coaches will welcome you along, teach you the basics of the game and give you the opportunity to deliver curling stones full length and compare yourself to Eve Muirhead and David Murdoch!"

And there is an incentive for all those attending. Participants at ‘Try Curling’ sessions will be given the opportunity to play in a Hotshots Challenge after their on-ice taster. The winner from each rink will be invited to receive a lesson from members of the GB Women’s Olympic team on Friday, April 2, 2010!

I think a 'well done' to Judith McFarlane, the RCCC's Development Manager, is called for. And to her team for getting this initiative up and running, and hopefully, whatever happens in Vancouver, we will see many new feet on the ice next season.
