Women Wanted For Unders and Overs

Longstanding blogallies will know that I'm always on the lookout for headlines that are a bit different! I guess part of me has always dreamed of being able to write, 'Women wanted for Unders and Overs'. And this on Valentine's Day too! But it's true. Ladies' Branch President Brenda Macintyre has been in touch to tell me that the Unders & Overs competition has had to change its usual March date because of the World Juniors.

The 2011 event has been scheduled for Braehead, the usual venue, on April 2-3. This new date also clashes unfortunately with the U-21s at Dumfries, but hopefully this will not be a major problem for either event.

At the Unders and Overs, the Ladies' Branch aim is to encourage lady curlers under or over 25 years of age into competition curling and to have two experienced players compete with two less so.

Brenda has asked her Ladies' Standing Committee to visit their junior night at their local rink and ask if anyone is interested. She has also asked them to invite lady curlers from their own clubs who wouldn't normally enter a competition to try and give them some confidence to join with others.

So, to help Brenda, this is a call for lady curlers who would like to play in a fun competition to gain more experience and make friends. Brenda will match them up with teammates if they wish. A minimum of eight teams is needed for the competition. Brenda's email address is on this page (just click on her name to reveal it), or contact her through Cairnie House (phone number is at the very bottom of this page).

And here's another thing that I came across yesterday that brought a smile. Canadian Buck Goodbrand is working on a 'rockumentary', a curling documentary, a behind the scenes expose of a curling team as they wend their way through a season. I'm a big fan of the Glenn Howard team, so this will be something to look forward to. The story is here. And you can watch the trailer here, or click on the image above.

Now, that's surely an idea we could copy in Scotland. Imagine ... behind the scenes with Team Hammy McMillan. Would that have to have a PG certificate (or even R18, see here)?

Let your mind wander... "Inside the Linda Young team?"; "The Lives and Loves of the Greig Henderson Four"; "2011 - A Welsh Odyssey, with Adrian Meikle"; "The Bob Kelly Story"; "Eve Muirhead 4"; "Rock Wars 2: The Horton Returns"; "Women With Brooms - Munro's Revenge"; "Terminator 2: Murdoch Day"; "McWilliam Strikes Back"; "Helen King Revealed".

Real film fans can do better, I'm sure.

Meanwhile, back on the day job, it's the Bruadar Scottish Men's Championship and the Columba Cream Women's Championship this week, and both events get underway today (Monday). The Bruadar draw is here, the Columba Cream draw is here, and the blog will be there!
