It's not at every World Junior event when someone has a twenty-first birthday. It's a big day in your life for sure, and a big reminder that you are now TOO OLD to play in the competition ever again! So that's Swiss alternate Alina Patz being presented with a wee birthday cake by Lynne Robertson from the Organising Committee, to the sounds of 'Happy Birthday' being sung around the rink.
No cake for China's alternate Rongrui Zhang, but he did receive a presentation and we all sang 'Happy Birthday' too. He is just fifteen today.Many happy returns to both.
